This is the season that we celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus. It is a wonderful time of the year and Joseph had a major part in caring for and protecting Jesus.
The bible does not Joseph Daher say a lot about Joseph but from what it did say we can see that he was a devout man and when he learned that Mary, his finance was pregnant he did not want to harm her but he considered putting her away secretly. However, an Angel came to him and told him not to do that. He believed in God so when the messenger came, he obeyed his voice.
Mary gave birth to our Savior but it was Joseph who protected Him. Mary did not have dreams about what to do but Joseph did. In Matthew 2:13-14 it reads, an Angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream saying, arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt and stay there until I bring you word for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him. When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt. Matthew 2:19-23 now when Herod was dead behold, an Angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt saying, arise, take the young Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young Child’s life are dead. Then he arose, took the young Child and His mother and came into the land of Israel, but when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod. He was afraid to go there and being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee, and he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
Joseph moved his family by divine instructions and because he was obeying what he saw and heard in his dreams, he was protecting Jesus.
Some called Jesus, the Son of Joseph or the carpenter’s Son but there is no place in the bible that speaks of what Jesus built but I am certain that He learned the trade however; I believe that Joseph taught Him much more than carpentry. I believe that he taught Him the Law. In those days the man was the teacher because he was head of the family, women were usually silent. Therefore, Jesus teaching came from Joseph. He had to learn the Law in order to abolish it when the time came. The Law was not bad because God put it in place to keep the people on track until He sent His Son and Joseph taught it to Jesus.
Jesus learned who He was through scriptures and through what Mary and Joseph told Him concerning His birth.
There is not a lot said about Joseph and it seemed like he faded away in the distance but he was a great man, he cared for, taught and protected our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His presence was not an accident, it was ordained by God because the Lord would have never trusted His Son into the hand of someone who would not do right by Him. Joseph was chosen as a part in God’s redemption plan for humankind and he lived up to His expectation.
